A 13-year-old will be referred to Youth Aid after more than $6000 worth of Pokémon cards were stolen from a shop in Auckland.
Police said the teenager took off with a ring binder in Henderson while the shopkeeper was distracted.
"Enquiries into the theft quickly identified the alleged offender, with a search warrant conducted at their address on Thursday morning," Detective Senior Sergeant Adam Lough said.
"Some of the cards were recovered while others had already been swapped."
Members of the public were advised to be wary about swapping the popular trading cards.
Anyone who believed they had received stolen cards or has any information relating to the incident has been asked to contact police online or on 105.
