Hundreds of US millionaires eyeing up move to NZ
Wealthy foreigners are continuing to eye up a move to New Zealand through the golden visa scheme, with more than 700 applications in the last 14 months.
This is up 115 in the previous three years according to the Financial Times, which reported the interest has come amid geopolitical uncertainty which makes New Zealand’s remoteness an attractive quality.
Of the applications, 277 were Americans, with most of the interest coming from California.
Man accused of violent rampage in Epsom appears in court via AV link
A man accused of carrying out a rampage in Auckland's Epsom last week – injuring three high school cyclists, assaulting a jogger and killing a dog – has made his first court appearance.
The 49-year-old faces 17 charges, including wounding and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault with a weapon and dangerous driving.
Controversial fast-track development north of Auckland gets approval
A 1200-home housing development on farmland west of Auckland's Ōrewa has been granted fast-track approval, subject to wastewater conditions that could require tanker loads of treated effluent to be trucked to Whangārei.
The 61-hectare project, undertaken by Auckland-based land development company Vineway and overseen by property developer Myland Partners, consists of more than 1200 residential dwellings, a commercial area, two neighbourhood parks and a network of protected ecological areas, along with a new State Highway 1 interchange.
