Two men allegedly forced their way into a Morrinsville home last night, threatening occupants with firearms before fleeing with stolen items and sparking a police chase which ended with a third man also under arrest.
Police were called to a Studholme St address at around 11.40pm on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant Natasha Lopes said two men entered a property and threatened the occupants with firearms, before stealing a few items and fleeing in a vehicle – allegedly driven by a third man.
“Thankfully, no one was injured, however the victims are understandably very shaken by the incident.”
Officers spotted the vehicle travelling at high speed on Holland Rd, heading towards Hamilton, and signalled the driver to stop.
Lopes said the driver fled but police did not pursue, successfully deploying road spikes on Ruakura Rd before the vehicle came to a stop on May St in Hamilton’s east.
A police dog unit tracked and located the men at a nearby property, where they were taken into custody.
The men, aged 25, 27 and 31, are due in Hamilton District Court today, all charged with aggravated burglary. The 25 and 31-year-old are also facing charges of possession of cannabis.
Lopes said further charges had not been ruled out.
