Reality television star Kim Kardashian has revealed she has a medical condition impacting her throat.
Yesterday a 2-minute-15-second trailer was released for the upcoming 8th season of The Kardashians.
In it, the 45-year-old reality star revealed that she had "something called esophagitis".
Esophagitis is inflammation of the lining of the oesophagus, the muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach.
Video showed Kim being tended to in a hospital bed, while someone off screen asks "didn't your father... Isn't that what he died of?".
The revelation appeared to prompt an emotional reaction from manager and mother Kris Jenner, who said in an aside interview: "I can’t, it makes me want to cry".
Another voice over during the trailer said "life is just really precious".
Kim's dad, Robert Kardashian, was a prominent American attorney and businessman, best known for being part of OJ Simpson's defence team during his infamous 1995 murder trial.
He was diagnosed with a serious and aggressive advanced oesophageal cancer of the throat in July 2003 after experiencing sudden difficulties swallowing and discomfort.
He died roughly two months later at the age of 59.
Esophagitis and oesophageal cancer were not the same thing, but according to a publication in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, individuals with esophagitis can have a significantly increased risk of developing oesophageal cancer.
Oesophageal cancer was more common in men than women and typically affects individuals over the age of 50.
Kim Kardashian also made headlines this week after she was awarded just € 1 ($2) for having been the victim of an armed robbery in the French capital in 2016.
