Around 20 firefighters have extinguished a large duplex fire in Auckland's Ōtara this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said crews received a 111 call at 4.15am about a single-storey duplex dwelling on Finlay Place which was ablaze.

"A fire at one house has spread to the attached house in the process," a police spokesperson said.

Crews from Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Ōtara and Ōtāhuhu responded, and more were requested upon arrival.

At its peak, five fire trucks and 20 firefighters were at the scene.

Firefighters searched the building and found it to be empty, with all occupants accounted for and no reported injuries.

Crews extinguished the fire and an investigator has been requested.

Police said officers were called to the scene, and were making inquiries alongside fire investigators to establish the circumstances of the fire.

"A scene guard has been put in place this morning," a spokesperson said.

It came almost a month to the day since firefighters battled a fire at a separate duplex on Finlay Pl in Ōtara, during an hour-long strike by the NZ Professional Firefighters Union.
