Magnitude 5.4 earthquake strikes off North Island's east coast

GeoNet reported the tremor struck at around 8.33am on Wednesday, around 70km north of Te Kaha, at a depth of 104km.

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake has struck off the east coast of the North Island this morning.

According to GeoNet, more than 1000 people reported feeling the shaking, reported as "light".

It was located around 70km north of Te Kaha at a depth of 104km.

People across the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, and Hawke's Bay regions reported feeling the quake.
