Arrest after man stabbed in Avondale petrol station assault

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another man during a fight at an Avondale petrol station last night.

Officers were called to the forecourt on Rosebank Rd at around 9.30pm.

"Two men had been involved in an altercation. One of the men had just arrived at the service station when the altercation began, and he suffered several stab wounds," said Auckland City CIB Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin.

"He was transported to Auckland City Hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition," he said.

The second man, a 35-year-old, was arrested by police at the scene.

He was also transported to hospital to treat minor injuries.

"This man is being charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He will appear in the Auckland District Court today," Baldwin said.

A scene examination will be completed at the forecourt today, and inquiries into the initial altercation remain ongoing.
