Emergency services called to helicopter crash at Gisborne Airport

Emergency services are at the scene of an incident involving a helicopter at Gisborne Airport, which police say had a "hard landing".

Fire and Emergency NZ said it was called just before 2pm by air traffic control "about a helicopter crash at Gisborne Airport".

FENZ said it responded with crews from Gisborne, Eastland, Pātūtahi,  Tolaga Bay and Manutuke.

In a post to Facebook, the airport confirmed two people were on board the helicopter.

Police said two people were reported to have minor injuries.

"Emergency services were called to Gisborne Airport at about 2pm after a hard landing by a helicopter," police said.

The Civil Aviation Authority had also been notified, it added.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it was in attendance and "working to make the scene safe".

Hato Hone St John said it responded and assessed two people at the scene in "minor conditions".

"No transportation to hospital was required."
