Les Mills, former Auckland mayor and fitness pioneer, dies at 91

Les Mills, four-time Olympian, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, former Auckland mayor and founder of a fitness empire, has died. He was 91.

In a statement posted to Instagram, the Mills family confirmed his death, describing him as "an absolute legend" and "a Kiwi icon who blazed a trail in sport, business, politics and life".

Mum's arm 'snapped clean in half' at rest home

A woman whose mother was left with a broken arm and dislocated shoulder after an incident in her Auckland retirement village says not enough is being done to ensure residents are safe.

Janice Foreman's injuries were captured on video, which was released to her daughter Nicky Foreman, showing a carer at the Edmund Hillary Retirement Village "yanking" Janice by the arm.

Raids target suspected Russian sanction breaches across New Zealand and Australia

New Zealand and Australian authorities have executed search warrants across Auckland, Christchurch and Melbourne as part of a joint investigation into suspected breaches of Russia sanctions, with a Christchurch residential property also seized.

The trans-Tasman investigation began in December 2025 following a referral from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
