British actor Lucy Davis, best known for her role in the original version of The Office, has revealed her "incurable" stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis.
In a post to Instagram, Davis said she was first diagnosed a year-and-a-half ago.
She said the cancer had since metastasised to her bones – specifically to her spine, right hip, and ribs.
"The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo," she said.
Davis said the initial lump she felt was more of a "tiny" hard spot.
"I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything - get everything checked out."
The actor said she was "trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can".
"I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that."
She described the pain as "really something else", and sometimes needed a wheelchair as standing and walking could be hard.
Davis was best known for playing receptionist Dawn in the hit UK comedy The Office, starring alongside Ricky Gervais and Martin Freeman.
She is the daughter of UK comedian Jasper Carrott. Davis also starred in 2004's Shaun of the Dead, and 2016's Wonder Woman.
Humour had been "vital" through the journey, Davis said.
"I asked my friends and family to make fun of me as much as possible (which they’re really good at), and most importantly of all to not treat me like a sick person.
"There’s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you’re unwell."
She said she was "not scared" of whatever came next, and is "at peace with it".
"I’ll see my [late dog] Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it’s far harder for them than for me."
Davis wanted to keep up her advocacy for animal rights and would like to keep working.
"I’m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life."
