Pak’nSave Rangiora has recalled two made in-store chicken products over the possibility the chicken had been undercooked.
The products, named the Death by Chicken Burger and Chicken Katsu Garden Salad, have a best before date of June 11, 2026, and were packed on June 8.
New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said eating the products could make people sick, and should not be eaten.
“You can return them to Pak’nSave Rangiora for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw them out.”
The products affected were sold at Pak’nSave Rangiora, located on 2 Southbrook Rd.
So far, Arbuckle said New Zealand Food Safety had not received any notifications of associated illness, however undercooked chicken could contain campylobacter bacteria.
“Symptoms of campylobacteriosis include diarrhoea, fever, headache, muscle aches, abdominal pain and vomiting. Symptoms appear within 2 to 5 days but sometimes can take up to 10 days.”

Arbuckle said New Zealand Food Safety would work with Pak’nSave Rangiora to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence.
