A 22-year-old man has been arrested following an investigation into the assault of an older man in Whangārei in April.
Police previously asked the public for assistance after a person was injured in a serious daylight assault by an unknown man outside a Riverside Drive store on April 22.
The 75-year-old man reportedly suffered brain bruising due to the assault, Stuff reported.
In an update this afternoon, Whangārei CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said a 22-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
"The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries and is thankfully recovering," he said.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to the public for all the information provided, which assisted police in apprehending the alleged offender."
The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in Whangārei District Court on June 29.
