The Football Ferns have been upset 2-1 by lower-ranked Haiti in a friendly international in Malaga, Spain.
Goals either side of halftime cost New Zealand dearly after they went ahead late in the first half through a headed goal to Claudia Bunge.
It was the first time the two nations met and it completed a notable double for Haiti in the space of a week after the men's side outclassed the All Whites 4-0 in a World Cup warmup match in Florida.
After a cagey start to the contest, New Zealand broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Michaela Foster's deep free kick found Bunge, who found the far side of the net in clinical fashion - scoring just her second international goal.
Haiti piled on the pressure in the dying minutes of the spell, getting their desired result when skipper Nerilia Mondesir guided home a free kick from the right-hand touchline in stoppage time.
The second half started with another Haiti goal, again via a free kick, to Lourdjina Etienne.
From there, Haiti were able to control the pace of the game, much to the frustration of the Football Ferns, who were unable to create chances for much of the remainder.
New Zealand's second match in Malaga is on Wednesday against another lower-ranked side, Morocco.
