Power outage resolved at Auckland's North Shore Hospital

Power has been fully restored at Auckland's North Shore Hospital after an outage triggered contingency measures activated and diverted ambulances to other hospitals around the city.

The hospital on Shakespeare Rd in Milford lost power at around 9.30am on Friday, which lasted for about two-and-a-half hours.

Health NZ Waitematā group director of operations Brad Healey said the fault had been resolved and an investigation launched to determine the cause.

"Patient safety is our highest priority. Throughout the outage, our focus remained on ensuring patients continued to receive the care they need."

Healey said ambulance admissions were diverted to other hospitals as a precaution from 10am, with all elective procedures and outpatient appointments scheduled for today postponed.

"We will contact affected patients to reschedule as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused," he said.

"We thank the community for their understanding and acknowledge the dedication of our staff, who continued to provide care while external power was restored."

Fire and Emergency NZ said ten lifts inside the building were affected by the power outage with reports of people stuck inside.

"All individuals were freed," a spokesperson said.
