A man has died in hospital after a crash between a van and pedestrian in Red Beach in north Auckland last Wednesday night.

Emergency services responded to the crash on Whangaparāoa Road just after 9pm on May 20.

The male pedestrian was transported to Auckland City Hospital with critical injuries.

"Sadly, he died in hospital overnight," police said.

The serious crash unit attended the scene of the crash at the time, and inquiries into the circumstances are continuing.
