Fire crews are battling a house fire in Auckland’s Avondale after flames spread from a kitchen into the roof early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the property on Shoreham St just before 6am, with five fire trucks responding to the blaze.
The fire, which started in a basement kitchen of a single-storey home, extended through the ceiling and into the roof space.
Senior station officer Michael Manning said crews arrived within five minutes to find a developing fire at the rear of the property.
“Our first crews have done an excellent job in containing the fire to that part of the building,” he told 1News.
All occupants were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived, after being alerted by working smoke alarms.
Firefighters remain at the scene working to extinguish remaining pockets of fire.
The cause of the blaze was not yet known, with a specialist fire investigator due to examine the scene, Manning said.
