A-League champions Auckland FC take over Queen St in jubilant scenes

Auckland FC players have jubilantly taken the A-League trophy in an open-top bus down Queen St to celebrate big win last night.

Fans lined the route to cheer them on as the team were taken from Aotea Square to Britomart at 11:30am.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown earlier urged fans to turn out and celebrate a special moment for Auckland.

The team, dressed in champion T-shirts, appeared to have been celebrating through the morning, if not overnight.

One of the team members held the trophy aloft, to the cheers of supporters along the road.

Hundreds teemed along the main street, which was closed to other traffic, behind the bus as it headed to Britomart.

At Takutai Square, outside Britomart Station, delighted fans cheered, while clamouring onto vantage points for a view of the trophy and their heroes.

Auckland beat Sydney FC 1-0 at a sold-out Go Media Stadium on Saturday night, becoming the first New Zealand team to win an A-League grand final.

The club's inaugural signing Cameron Howieson scored the only goal in the 60th minute and claimed the Joe Marston Medal,
