Sign-up delays emerge ahead of Foodstuffs loyalty scheme launch

The new rewards and benefits scheme would be rolled out at Pak'n'Save, New World and Four Square from June 15.

Some shoppers are experiencing delays in signing up to Foodstuffs' new Club+ loyalty programme, as the co-operative says strong early demand put pressure on the system ahead of next month's launch.

The new rewards and benefits scheme would be rolled out at Pak'n'Save, New World and Four Square from June 15.

Under Club+, shoppers will earn Club+ Dollars at New World (0.75%) and Four Square (0.38%), which can then be spent at all three banners, including Pak’n’Save.

Pak’n’Save customers will not earn Club+ Dollars but can still spend them, alongside accessing fuel discounts and targeted deals.

One shopper told 1News they had experienced issues receiving the verification code to sign up for it.

"First it wouldn't send, and then four came through all at once," they said.

Another customer shared a screenshot from the app, which read: "We are currently experiencing high volumes of customers joining Club+, which may result in a delay while joining. Hold tight, we're working to get this sorted ASAP. Please try again later."

Foodstuffs New Zealand acknowledged the issues in a statement, saying some customers had encountered slowdowns during the sign-up process.

"The level of interest has been incredibly strong, and our teams are working hard to make sure everyone who wants to join can do so before Club+ officially launches on June 15," a Foodstuffs spokesperson said.

The company said the delays were part of early-stage issues often seen during large-scale rollouts, with work underway to address technical problems.

"As can be the case with a launch of this scale, there are some early fixes and improvements being worked through," the statement said.

Customers still had several weeks to register before the programme goes live, with Foodstuffs encouraging people to remain patient while the issues were resolved.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we work through the high demand."
