Auckland FC will host the A-League grand final at home after Sydney FC ended the Newcastle Jets' hopes of a double last night.
Premier's Plate winners the Jets lost on penalties in their second-leg semifinal against Sydney last night after both teams were left with a goal apiece at the end of extra time.
With Auckand finishing the regular season ahead of Sydney, they get the privilege of contesting for the title in front of home fans.
The club confirmed the grand final will be played at Go Media Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, May 23 at 8.10pm.
It will be the first A-League grand final held in New Zealand, with the team looking to become the first Kiwi team to win the title. Auckland's attempt last season ended in heartbreak, losing out to Melbourne Victory in the semi-final. Victory also ended the Wellington Phoenix's hopes in the semi-final the previous season.
“This is a huge occasion for Auckland FC, the city, and football in this country. I’m incredibly proud of the players and excited for what’s to come," CEO Nick Becker said.
Tickets for the final go on sale Monday.
