National treasure Suzy Cato has teamed up with a brave group of comedians to perform at this year's Comedy Festival for the toughest audience on Earth – children.
Cato told Seven Sharp the comedians – including Sam Smith, Florence Hartigan, Tom E. Moffatt and Jon Coddington – decided to collaborate after Hartigan performed a show at last year's festival called Me, My Mother and Suzy Cato.
"When I saw that, I was like, 'I’ve got to work with Flo. She gets it'," Cato said. "She did the most amazing Suzy Cato in the show."
Hartigan added: "This time last year, I was at the Comedy Festival doing an impression of Suzy Cato and now here we are."
The hour-long show, Sounds Funny with Suzy Cato and Friends, involves silly songs, child comedians – and even a bit of puppetry.

The idea came about several years ago as a way to give kids the opportunity to be comedians themselves or to sit in the audience and "being entertained by funny things that are directed at them", Cato said.
"To be able to provide something for kids has always been my dream. For kids to be able to just laugh at themselves, to laugh at being Kiwi. We take ourselves too seriously here in New Zealand – we just need to have fun, to lighten up.”
Sounds Funny with Suzy Cato and Friends will be performing at Hannah Playhouse in Wellington on May 16.
