Police attend the scene in Napier.

Four people arrested over the death of Napier man Boy Taylor have had their charges upgraded to murder.

Two men are due to appear in court today after they were arrested overnight, Detective Inspector David de Lange said this afternoon.

On December 18, police were called to Napier CBD near the intersection of Emerson and Hastings streets around 3.15am, following a report of a person lying on the street.

Taylor, 58, had sustained injuries consistent with assault at the scene, according to de Lange, with a homicide investigation ongoing into his death.

Four people face a range of charges over death

A 19-year-old Napier man will appear in the Hastings District Court today charged with murder. He is also facing a charge of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm in relation to a second victim that has been identified.

An 18-year-old Wellington man will appear in the Wellington District Court today charged with murder and one charge of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Two Napier men have been remanded in custody after appearing in court earlier this week.

The pair are set to reappear in court on January 22 with their charges upgraded to murder. They were also charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, police said.

"Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to Mr Taylor’s death," de Lange said earlier today.

"I would like to acknowledge the time and effort put in by the investigation team to identify and arrest those allegedly involved in Mr Taylor's death," de Lange said.

"While we still have more work to do, we hope that these arrests provide the victim's family with some degree of comfort at a very difficult time."
