Fire crews have extinguished two large vegetation fires which broke out central Hawke's Bay earlier today.
Crews were alerted to a blaze in tree stumps and slash on Swamp Rd, Ongaonga at around 9.25am on Monday.
Nine trucks, four tankers and three specialist support vehicles from Ongaonga, Waipukurau, Tikokino, Tamatea, Ōtāne, Hastings, Omakere, and Napier were at the scene.
Fire crews from Tamatea, Hastings, Otane, Norsewood and Maraekakaho were also tackling a second blaze on the same street.
"Extremely windy conditions are making firefighting difficult," a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said.
In an update this afternoon, FENZ confirmed the vegetation fires had been extinguished.
