Police are investigating after two homes in Auckland's Onehunga and Māngere East were reportedly shot at last night.
Officers were called to Ahuwhenua Crescent in Onehunga at around 10.28pm after "reports of a firearm being discharged".
Auckland City Crime Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said the people believed to be involved left the area before police arrived.
"At this stage, while they have not been located, police are following positive lines of inquiry, which includes reviewing a significant amount of available CCTV footage in and around the area."
He said no injuries had been reported following the incident.
Also overnight, police were dispatched to Māngere East shortly after 11pm following a home being shot at on Haddon St.
Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers said an investigation was underway after "a number of bullet holes were located in the house".
"Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in relation to this matter," he said, adding the community should expect an increased police presence in the area.
Anyone with information on either incident was asked to call police on 105.
Police Minister responds
Police Minister Mark Mitchell was asked about the shooting on Breakfast this morning.
"Those are the things that keep me awake at night," he said.
"Often it's gang-related," Mitchell added, pointing to the Government's gang crack-down — but also acknowledging "we don't know" if last night's shooting was gang-related.
"Obviously the police will have an ongoing investigation, I'm just highlighting that most of these drive-by shootings and firearm-related incidents out in the public are gang-related or link back to gangs.
"We are coming down hard on gangs."
