Renowned French luxury brand unveils first New Zealand boutique

Cartier has opened the doors to its Auckland boutique.

Cartier has opened the doors to its Auckland boutique, the French retailer's eighth store in Oceania and first in New Zealand.

The high-end house, known for its "love" bracelets and watches, quietly opened its doors at 66 Queen St on July 31 before officially launching today.

The store is said to be inspired by the "extraordinary creativity, craftsmanship and beauty" of New Zealand, and stands out from surrounding stores with an architectural nod to Cartier's Parisian roots.

Inside, the boutique houses the brand's full collections across jewellery, watches, leather goods, accessories and fragrances.

Cartier Oceania managing director Thomas Crye told The Post the opening marked "an exciting chapter" for the brand, which operates more than 270 stores globally.

"We are proud to establish a permanent Maison presence in Auckland, creating a destination where our clients can discover the entire Cartier universe," Crye said.

The boutique featured New Zealand art, including a hand-carved tōtara piece by Māori wood carver Steve Solomon and hand-blown glass installations by Isaac Katzoff.

The French brand was owned by Swiss luxury goods group Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, known as Richemont, and controlled by South African billionaire Johann Rupert and his family.

Richemont also owned Van Cleef & Arpels and Montblanc, also with stores on Queen St.
