One person has died after a workplace incident in Mount Wellington this morning.

Police said they were called to the event at Lynton Rd at 8.25am.

Naylor Love chief executive officer Rick Herd confirmed a worker died on the construction site of a new apartment near Sylvia Park in Auckland.

He said Naylor Love was contacting the man's overseas family today, and staff were "extremely upset".

Herd said his company was conducting inquiries into the death, as were police and WorkSafe.

A witness told 1News a gate appeared to have fallen at a construction site.

He said police have cordoned off the worksite but have not closed any roads.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious, and WorkSafe have been notified.

Two fire appliances were understood to have attended the incident, as well as several police cars.

Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) confirmed crews were called to a medical incident to help assist ambulance at 8.21am, and one appliance was dispatched.

FENZ also returned to the site at 11:29am "to help assist police", a spokesperson said.
