A man was seriously injured after a “disorder incident” in Auckland’s Mission Bay on Tuesday night.
Police said they received reports about the incident shortly before midnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong, Auckland City Police, initially said they found a man at the scene with critical injuries.
He was transported to hospital, where his condition has been downgraded to serious but stable, according to a Wednesday afternoon update.
Armstrong said an investigation is underway, but the circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
Investigators are hoping to speak to the man in the next 24 hours, Armstrong said, but this is dependent on his condition.
Police officers are increasing their presence in the Mission Bay area.
