A man has been arrested after scaling a high-rise building in the Auckland CBD in an attempt to evade police on Monday afternoon.

Police received multiple reports of a person climbing down the Barclay Suites building, on Albert Street, at around 2pm, a police spokesperson told 1News.

Video shot from a nearby apartment complex captured the moment the man scaled down the outer balconies - 16 stories from the ground - as police entered the building.

A 34-year-old man was later arrested by police for breaching his electronically monitored bail.
