A person has tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving at Waitākere Hospital's emergency department.

The person turned up to the West Auckland hospital yesterday afternoon.

They were triaged based on their symptoms, and a swab returned a positive result.

"All clinical staff involved in the care of this person wore appropriate PPE and were vaccinated and can continue to work as normal," Waitematā DHB deputy chief executive Andrew Brant said.

"Three non-clinical staff will be stood down pending further scoping work with occupational health. Patients in the area at the time have been identified and appropriate advice and precautions have been put in place."

The department remained open, with the appropriate areas cleaned.

It comes after two staff members at North Shore Hospital's dialysis unit tested positive, after a visit by an infected patient.

On Saturday, a fully vaccinated staff member at Auckland City Hospital tested positive for Covid-19. Today the Ministry of Health said two further staff members had contracted the virus.
