Police say two male officers were on patrol in the city at 2.30am when they were assaulted at the intersection of Dee St and Don St.

One of the officers was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital.

He was released a few hours later and is resting at home while the second officer was uninjured, police said in a statement this evening.
