Man drowns while snorkeling at Southland beach

A 68-year-old-man drowned while snorkeling at Wakapatu Beach in Kawakaputa Bay, Southland, this evening.

Police say the incident occurred at about 5.30pm when the man was snorkeling on the surface about 100 metres out from shore. 

The death is being referred to the Coroner.
