Mr T, who helps South Auckland kids into cycling, has his bike stolen - and the community isn't happy

December 21, 2017
Teau Aiturau, also known as Mr T of Mangere, in Auckland, has had his bike stolen. A Givealittle page has been set up to buy him a new one, to repay the generosity he's shown to so many Auckland kids.

Teau Aiturau has for years been enriching the lives of kids in South Auckland by giving them access to bikes, but he's now in need of some generosity himself, after his own beloved bike was stolen.

Better known as Mr T, Mr Aiturau operates a charitable trust Time To Thrive – To Stay Alive, in the Auckland suburb of Mangere, which aims to equip kids with bikes, bike skills, and encouraging them all-round towards a healthy lifestyle.

But Mr T's own beloved bike, crucial to running his own business and getting around town, was recently stolen.

And in the ultimate pay-it-back gesture, a Givealittle page has been set up to raise $1000 to get Mr T a new bike.

"Operating on a shoestring from his pop-up bike workshop in the car park next to the Mangere Community Centre, Mr T hands out bikes to anyone in the neighbourhood who wants to ride. So now we want to give Teau a helping hand," the Let’s get Mr T a new bike for Christmas! Givealittle page says.

The page says they have already arranged for a discounted bike from Evo Cycles, but some funds are still lacking.

Mr T's trust operates out of a garage workshop in the Mangere Community House, and is involved in Bikes in School initiatives around Auckland.
