Retailers have been swift to respond to news potentially-dangerous trampolines are being sold in New Zealand.
A Consumer New Zealand test has revealed six of seven big brand tramps failed the Australian standards test, with major safety faults.
The trampolines named in the test were sold by 1-Day, Kmart, The Warehouse, Farmers, Jumpflex and Springfree.
Springfree was the only product to pass the Australian standard – which was used because New Zealand’s standard for trampolines was dropped in 2015.
The owners of Flexjump, Stephen and Matt Tubbs, say their trampoline is absolutely safe and no concerns have ever been raised about its design.
“We sell thousands of trampolines with thousands of happy customers, and happy jumpers,” said Stephen.
“It’s one of the strongest tramps on the market,” Matt added.
The pair say the Australian test is geared towards spring-free trampolines, but they would work with Consumer NZ to find out why their product failed.
After news of the faults broke, 1-Day removed its trampoline listings from Trade Me.
The Warehouse said its brand and 1-Day would refund any customers concerned about the safety of the products they had bought.
However Kmart says its own test results got a different result to Consumer – and it believes its product does meet Australian standards.
Farmers did not respond to requests for comment.
