'Idiot!' - Demolition goes horribly wrong when digger pushes wall, severs gas line in Auckland

December 21, 2017

A woman's home was left unlivable after a digger driver demolishing a house pushed a concrete wall on to it, severing her gas line, disrupting power and piercing the wall.

The incident took place in the Auckland suburb of Pt Chevalier about 7.45pm, the NZ Herald reported, but it is unclear which day it happened on.

Bystanders could only watch and shout as the wall fell towards the house.

After it fell, bystanders can be heard cursing him and then shouting in panic due to a smell of gas.

One bystander shouts, "turn your machine off, it's gas".

Occupant of the house Kate Paterson, who uses a wheelchair was left with nowhere to go after the debris blocked the driveway, reported NZ Herald.

Worksafe was reportedly called five times.
