Fleeing car strikes police officer near Whakatane

A police officer has been hit by a car near Whakatane, as the vehicle was fleeing.

The male officer was taken to hospital, says Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Commander Kevin Taylor in a statement.

It incident happened in Awakeri.

Police have located the man who they believe was involved in the incident and are speaking with him.
