Former ACT deputy leader and minister Brooke Van Velden has announced the birth of her first child.
Van Velden released a picture on her social media, showing the newborn's feet in wooly crocheted boots, along with a caption that said she and her partner were "thrilled" to welcome the newest member of their family.
The caption read "welcome to the world little one", before going on to acknowledge healthcare workers and her partner for their support.
"I wish to thank the wonderful medical teams that ensured the safe arrival of our baby, and my partner for his support during the pregnancy and these first days of motherhood," Van Velden said.
The former politician also told followers she was home recovering well.
When announcing her pregnancy earlier in the year, she said it was unrelated to her decision not to stand at the election.
Van Velden announced her retirement from politics in late March, saying she would "explore opportunities in the private sector".
Van Velden was the MP for Tāmaki, which was won yesterday by National's Mahesh Muralidhar.
