Kiwi Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has secured another points finish, crossing the line ninth at the United States Grand Prix in Austin.

The Racing Bulls driver started ninth at the Circuit of the Americas and held onto his position throughout the race to claim two championship points.

Lawson enjoyed a relatively quiet race, running comfortably ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly during the 56-lap event but unable to close the gap to Mercedes driver George Russell.

The result added to Lawson's consistent run of points-scoring performances this season, as uncertainty remained over his place on the Formula 1 grid for 2027.

He remained ninth in the drivers' championship standings, moving to 77 points and extending his advantage over his nearest challenger Gasly to 35 points.

His teammate Arvid Lindblad, who started 14th after receiving an engine penalty, finished 12th.

At the front, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli dominated the race to claim his ninth victory of the season, finishing 16 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

The 20-year-old cruised from pole position to victory, moving another step closer to becoming the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history.

Despite the victory, Antonelli fell just one point short of securing the world championship.

The 20-year-old needed a championship lead of at least 125 points to secure the title in Austin, but finished 123 points clear of his nearest rival, Mercedes teammate George Russell, who crossed the line eighth.

Hamilton also remained mathematically in contention, sitting 124 points behind the Italian.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen rounded out the Austin podium in third, while Hamilton finished fourth.

Formula 1 will heads to Mexico next weekend for the Mexican Grand Prix, where Antonelli will have a solid opportunity to secure the championship.
