Police are seeking the driver of a small white hatchback after a cyclist was killed in a crash involving a car near Christchurch this morning.
Emergency services were called to Dyers Pass Rd in Governors Bay at around 10.20am after receiving reports of a crash.
"Sadly, the cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Senior Sergeant Chris Wakelin.
"Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this difficult time."
Police were now appealing to the driver of a small white hatchback that was travelling south on Dyers Pass Rd towards Governors Bay at around 10.20am.
They believed the driver may have information that could assist police inquiries.
Police were asking the driver, or anyone who knew the driver, to contact them via 105 using file number P067881921.
Dyers Pass Rd was closed between Summit Rd and Governors Bay Rd following the crash but had since reopened.
The serious crash unit had been notified and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing, police said.
