Labour leader Chris Hipkins has spoken to media from Auckland after the Government’s books were opened in the Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update (PREFU) today.
PREFU is Treasury's final snapshot of the Government's finances before voters head to the polls.
In today's update, Treasury forecast a smaller-than-expected $6.8 billion deficit for 2026/27, with the Govt's books still expected to return to surplus in 2028/29.
It comes after Labour launched its official election campaign over the weekend.
Hipkins spoke shortly after 2pm.
