A man has been charged after damage to election hoardings in the south Auckland area this month.
Police have received multiple reports of election hoardings being vandalised in Takanini since early September.
Inspector Matt Hoyes said members of the public had allegedly observed a person defacing and removing signs, with police seeing them "actively vandalising" a hoarding on Great South Rd yesterday.
"A 34-year-old male was arrested and charged with seven counts of theft under $2000."
Hoyes said the charges served as a reminder that deliberate damage to hoardings would be met with consequences.
"We thank those who notified us of this offending as it occurred and encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it to police."
The man will appear in Papakura District Court today.
