A woman accused of killing her husband with kitchen knives, dismembering him and disposing of his body in bin bags, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Nirmeen Noufl was due to stand trial in the NSW Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to murdering her husband in May 2023.
But the trial was delayed at the last moment and, on Wednesday, the 55-year-old pleaded guilty to manslaughter of 62-year-old Mamdouh Noufl.
She had a blank expression, sitting in a custody cell which beamed into the courtroom before pleading not guilty to murdering her husband.
"I plead guilty to manslaughter in the alternative," Nirmeen Noufl told the court.
According to court documents tendered during an earlier attempt by Nirmeen Noufl to be granted bail, the couple had a fraught marriage punctuated by domestic abuse.
The documents stated Mamdouh Noufl had become engaged to another woman in Egypt in late 2022 and had informed his wife that he wanted to continue that relationship while also remaining married to her.
Agreed facts are expected to be released later on Wednesday, once certain redactions have been made.
Nirmeen Noufl was arrested in October 2024 and charged with murdering her husband at their home in western Sydney more than a year earlier.
She was accused of intentionally killing her husband during a physical altercation before dismembering his body with kitchen knives and an electric drop saw.
Prosecutors alleged she then placed his remains in up to 30 rubbish bags, which she disposed of in residential and industrial bins in suburbs around western Sydney.
Mamdouh Noufl's remains have never been recovered.
Nirmeen Noufl pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, which did not require intent to cause death or grievous bodily harm.
She will return to court for a sentencing hearing in September.
