A 20-year-old has been arrested after a man was hit and critically injured by a car doing burnouts at an "anti-social road user" gathering near Feilding over the weekend.
He was charged with sustained loss of traction while driving, causing injury.
Emergency services were called to Halcombe Rd, north of Feilding, on Saturday, August 22 at 12.20am. Police said the driver allegedly fled the scene.
Detective Sergeant Grant Christian said the victim was found with "extensive injuries" and remained in a serious condition at Wellington Hospital. He was being supported by family.
The alleged offender was arrested last night and is due to appear in Palmerston North District Court on September 1.
Investigators were also looking for a green 2000 Ford Falcon AU Futura sedan believed to be involved in the incident.
Christian urged anyone who may have witnessed, or had video footage, of the incident to come forward.
