A crashed truck on Auckland's SH16.

Motorists are being advised to "avoid the area" after a truck hit a median barrier on a major Auckland motorway early this afternoon.

Officers were called after the truck, travelling in a northbound lane, hit the median barrier on State Highway 16 near the St Lukes off-ramp around 12.35pm.

"There were no reports of injury," a police spokesperson said.

Police said heavy delays were expected, and advised motorists to avoid the area or seek an alternative route.

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said online at 2.10pm that all westbound lanes were now open.

"The right eastbound lane will remain closed for some time while crews repair the barrier. Pass with care," it said.

"Traffic is heavy in the area, expect delays."
