Police are investigating after a man arrived at a hospital on Auckland's North Shore last night with a gunshot wound.

Police were called after the man arrived with an "unexplained gunshot wound" around 11.45pm.

The man was injured in Hillcrest.

"He received a serious injury and remains in hospital," Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie of Waitematā CIB said.

"Inquiries are now ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what has occurred, including who is responsible."
