Greytown and Featherston residents have been asked to use water for essential purposes only after damage to a water supply pipe.

The South Wairarapa District Council said a water supply pipe feeding the water treatment plant had been damaged, and emergency repairs were under way.
“The water supply remains safe to drink, but water conservation is needed now so the remaining water reservoir level does not get too low,” the council said.
“Please only use water for essential purposes such as drinking, cooking, hygiene and toilet flushing until at least 6pm tonight.
The council said conserving water now would help maintain supply for everyone if repairs took longer than expected.
Businesses were asked to minimise non-essential water use where practical.
The Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade said contingencies were in place for its crews if significant water was required for firefighting.
