A man has been arrested over an "unprovoked" intermittent nine-minute attack on an Auckland bus last month.

The assault occurred at around 6pm on Sunday, June 21, on a North Shore bus.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said the "intermittent" assault was captured on CCTV and lasted around nine minutes.

"The victim was extremely shaken by the incident and required medical treatment for their injuries," Williams said.

The alleged offender could not be found, and an investigation was launched.

With help from the public, police identified the suspect, and he was arrested yesterday.

A 37-year-old man was charged with injuring with intent to injure and impeding breathing.

He was due to appear in the North Shore District Court today, and his bail has been opposed.

“Police have no tolerance for violence taking place on public transport, and we will continue to prosecute those offenders,” Williams said.
