A new cycling and pedestrian bridge has been successfully lifted into place over State Highway 76/Brougham Street in Christchurch.

Brougham St has since reopened to traffic after being closed from 8pm Friday through to 5am Saturday to allow the operation to take place safely.

The bridge is a key component of NZTA's SH76/Brougham Street upgrade project and will provide a traffic-free crossing for people walking, cycling or scooting, with a direct connection to nearby schools, workplaces and residential areas. It was expected to be fully complete and open to the public by November.
