Woman falls to death in Brazil after bungee cord not attached

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, was thrown from the Ponte do Esqueleto, known as Skeleton Bridge, a disused rail crossing near São Paulo.

A woman fell to her death after staff allegedly forgot to attach the rope before she bungee jumped from a bridge in Brazil.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, was thrown from the Ponte do Esqueleto, known as Skeleton Bridge, an abandoned rail crossing near São Paulo, according to Brazilian outlet G1.

Footage circulating on social media appears to show staff carrying de Freitas towards the edge of the bridge in the moments before the jump.

In the video, a witness can be heard pointing to a rope left on the ground and shouting, "Guys, the rope!"

According to O Globo, de Freitas had joked on her Instagram Stories shortly before the jump, asking who had been "crazy" enough to let her jump off a bridge.

Six people were brought in for questioning over the death, a representative for the São Paulo government confirmed to PEOPLE.

Three men — aged 27, 32 and 42 — were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide with implied malice.

São Paulo police delegate Andrea Dantas Levy told G1 the operation had not been authorised to run at the site.

She said the fatality appeared to stem from a failure to check and supervise whether the rope had been properly attached before the jump.
