Six teenagers were taken into custody after a convoy of three stolen cars was stopped by police in east Auckland in the early hours of this morning.
The police Eagle helicopter witnessed the cars travelling in tandem along the Maraetai Coast Rd at around 3.30am.
Senior Sergeant Simon Cornish said the vehicles, two Nissan Tiidas and a Toyota Premio, were confirmed as stolen.
"Officers on the ground swiftly put down spikes along Maraetai Coast Road, which all three vehicles drove over," he said.
"One of the Nissans and the Toyota came to a stop a short time later and four people were taken into custody."
Cornish said the last remaining vehicle continued driving through Clevedon towards Papakura and was spiked again, continuing on until "all tyres were obliterated and undrivable".
The two occupants were taken into custody.
Six people, aged between 13 and 16, have been referred to Youth Aid Services.
