The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins today, kicking off football's greatest showcase and the biggest sport tournament in the world.
The World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 12 to July 20 NZT.

Every All Whites match will also be available to watch live and free on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+.
In total, 22 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches will also be available for audiences free – including the tournament's opening match between Mexico and South Africa and the final game.
For those wanting more action, all 104 matches will also be available to those who purchase a one-off event pass on TVNZ+, available for $44.95.

At 5.30am today, TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+ started its free broadcast of the opening ceremony, followed by the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
During the free broadcasts, presenter Chris Chang will host a studio show for TVNZ 1’s matches, including pre-match, half-time and full-time debriefs across the 11 free-to-air games.
Chang will also be joined by football experts to analyse each game-changing moment, including Auckland FC goalkeeper Oli Sail, Wellington Phoenix legend Paul Ifill, football commentator Seamus Marten, and four-time FIFA Women’s World Cup coach Bev Priestman.
The first All Whites game against Iran kicks off at 1pm NZT on Tuesday, June 16.
