A dinghy has been located in the Far North's Hihi Beach with fresh fish inside – but its owner was nowhere to be found.
As a precaution, police have appealed to the public for any information which may assist in identifying the owner of the boat or its recent movements.
Hihi Beach is about 29km east of Kaitāia.
"The general appearance of the dinghy indicates it is in use, so police would like to rule out the vessel being linked to anyone missing or in distress."

The dinghy is described as light blue, approximately six feet, with a worn off-white interior.
A fishing net was found inside it with a loose seat cushion, a wooden bench and three "freshly caught" fish.
People with information which may help are asked to contact police.
